Sustainability Begins with Every Action
At Luft Blue, our passion is to reduce diesel exhaust, synthetic urea solutions and emissions with Luft Blue.
We Create Luft Blue for a Sustainable Future
Luft Blue is injected into the exhaust stream of diesel engines, where it reacts with a catalyst to convert harmful nitrogen oxides (NOx) into harmless nitrogen gas (N2) and water vapor. This process helps vehicles meet stringent emissions regulations, such as those set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the United States and similar agencies worldwide.
Vehicles that require Luft Blue usually have a separate storage tank for it, which is filled by the vehicle owner or operator. The Luft Blue tank is typically located near the fuel tank, and the two systems are kept separate to prevent contamination. The Luft Blue is consumed at a rate that depends on the engine’s operating conditions and emissions requirements.
It is important to note that Luft Blue should only be used in vehicles specifically designed for SCR systems, as using it in non-SCR-equipped vehicles or mixing it with diesel fuel can cause damage to the engine and exhaust system. Luft Blue is available at our Main Distributors and Luft Blue Principle. Please check the contact details on our Website in the Contact Us section.
Our History
The history of Luft Blue manufacturing is closely linked to the development and implementation of Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology in diesel engines. Luft Blue is the brand name for Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF), which is used in vehicles equipped with SCR systems to reduce harmful emissions.
The concept of SCR technology for reducing nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions in diesel engines was developed in the late 20th century. SCR involves injecting a urea-based solution into the exhaust stream, where it reacts with NOx to convert them into harmless nitrogen and water vapor.
Luft Blue as a specific brand name and product emerged as SCR technology gained traction in the automotive industry. Luft Blue has German technology and it is locally manufactured in Indonesia. Luft Blue entered the Indonesian market in 2020.
As emissions regulations became more stringent worldwide, particularly for diesel vehicles, the need for effective NOx reduction technologies like SCR and Diesel Exhaust Fluid become more prominent. Governments and environmental agencies implemented standards to limit harmful emissions, which further drove the demand for Luft Blue.
To ensure product quality and compatibility, international standards were developed to govern Luft Blue manufacturing, handling, and usage. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) introduced the ISO 22241 standard, which outlines requirements for Luft Blue production, storage, transportation, and handling.
